Walter C. Koerner Forestry Centre
Built in 2006, the Walter C. Koerner Forestry Centre offers full retreat services. This is the place to be for your meetings, retreats, and conferences. Enjoy comfortable accommodations, meeting space, dining and lounging areas all under one roof! The natural splendor of Koerner Centre has the caliber your group is looking for tucked away in an intimate, forested, lake-side location - boasting incredible, breathtaking views from every angle. The impressive contemporary design mimics the natural surroundings with slate floors, an abundance of natural light, vaulted ceilings, massive structural cedar beams and warm earth tones throughout. Though modern in design, a strong sense of history is reminiscent throughout the Centre. A collection of historical photographs adorn the walls revealing the faces of the men and early day forestry practices that were instrumental in the shape of Loon Lake Research & Education Centre today. Koerner Centre AccommodationsSleeps up to 40 shared accommodations; 16 private accommodations. Choose from sixteen attractively appointed rooms with private bathrooms and full linen services. All rooms include fine linens, warm colors and picturesque views. The absence of televisions and telephones in the sleeping rooms enhance the tranquil ambiance. Deluxe Forest Retreat
Both comfortable and rich with natural character, this deluxe space exudes relaxation and forces guests to indulge in the tranquility by offering incredible views of Loon Lake and the lush green forest. Located on the third floor, these rooms contain one double bed, two single beds and a private bathroom. Also included: night stands, alarm clock, desk and internet access.

For single or shared accommodation, this private retreat space allows guests to unwind and enjoy the peaceful surroundings at any time of day. Located on the first and second floor, these rooms are equipped with two single beds and a private bathroom. First floor rooms have access to an outdoor patio where you can just sit, relax and enjoy the view. Also included: night stand, alarm clock, writing desk and internet access.
Koerner Centre Lounge AreasGreat Room
As you enter the lodge, this comfortable space, complete with a collection of games, books, music, a wet bar and massive floor to ceiling rock fireplace provide a welcoming place to gather with colleagues and friends. In the warmer months, double doors open up to a 12' x 20' deck with an extraordinary view of Loon Lake. The great room can double as informal meeting space. Upper LoungeLooking for tranquility? This hide-away lounge is a cozy space with minimal distractions - great for small group or private discussions. This space can also be utilized as additional break out space. Outdoor DeckSupported by massive cedar logs, this 12' x 20' deck extends from the great room and looks on to Loon Lake. We anticipate this will be the ultimate retreat space that Koerner Centre has to offer during the summer months. This space can also double as a break out space, but don't count on getting much work accomplished! Koerner Centre Internet ServicesKoerner Centre is serviced by a high speed wireless Internet system and an internal local area network. Wired connections are available in the classroom / meeting space and some of our guest accommodations. The perfect meeting space for groups that wish to have minimal distractions as they settle down to business. Within a relaxed and secluded atmosphere the meeting space offers all of the downtown amenities with none of the downtown distractions. If clear thinking is critical - this is the place to be! A comfortable space with an incredible view (you just can't get away from it around here), where up to 60 guests can relax and enjoy mouth watering gourmet meals. For stand up receptions this space can accommodate up to 100 guests. Your senses will be spoiled with enticing aromas blended with fresh mountain air. Although the cooks are famous for creating comfort foods, they also have a flair for delivering extraordinary multi course offerings. Depending on the event - our resident Chef will be able to design a menu that will more than satisfy your guests' appetites. Dietary restrictions, food allergies and vegetarian meals can be easily accommodated and presented with the same artistic flair as the regular offerings. Please inquire in advance of your arrival. Looking for those little extras? Book an evening reception and treat your guests to hors d'oeuvres and cocktails before the main course. Guests can mingle in the dining area or gather under the stars on the outdoor patio. Though Koerner Centre is not licensed to serve or sell liquor, guests are welcome to bring their own supply to compliment the cuisine and to celebrate special events. For all of our guests, the coffee is always on and to your liking of course, decaf or a full brew. A great selection of cocoas, herbal teas, juices and water are also available.
Johnson Cabins (also known as Arbutus and Yew Cabins)
Sleeps up to 32 - shared accommodation. Opened in 2009, these newly constructed cabins are a welcome addition to Loon Lake. Complete with comfortable lounge areas, cozy fireplaces, large multi-purpose rooms and peaceful sleeping rooms. There are 4 bedrooms on each floor. Each bedroom has 2 beds, a writing desk and wireless Internet. When used as additional accommodation to Koerner Centre, guests will enjoy all the amenities that Koerner Centre offers (meals served in dining room, linen service, and daily room service). Staff HouseSleeps up to 25 - shared accommodation.
Built in 1949, this original building is a favorite of many guests. The Staff House is ideal for corporate groups that are booking Koerner Centre as the main space, but require additional sleeping rooms. There are 8 bedrooms - 4 up (and 2 bathrooms) and 4 on the main floor (1 wheelchair accessible bathroom). The large great room will easily hold all the guests to watch a video (TV & DVD available), hold a meeting or teach a class. The stone fireplace (wood available) will make the bleakest winter evening seem cozy. When used as additional accommodation to Koerner Centre, guests will enjoy all the amenities of the Centre (meals served in the dining room, linen service and daily maid service). Sleeps up to 30 shared accommodations.
Alumni and Friends CabinSleeps up to 8 - shared accommodation.
This two storey cabin, perched high on a hill offers quaint, comfortable accommodations. The upstairs loft is equipped with 4 beds and each of the 2 bedrooms on the main floor has 2 beds. The washroom on the main floor has 2 shower facilities. There's a cozy sitting room with a wood burning stove - the perfect place to curl up with a good book. When used as additional accommodation to Koerner Centre, guests will enjoy all the amenities of the Centre (meals served in the dining room, linen service and daily maid service). Sleeps up to 9 shared accommodations.
AmphitheatreBuilt by students of UBC's School of Architecture, this massive outdoor log structure provides the ideal place to awaken your groups' spirit and enliven their senses. Past groups have used this space for exercise sessions, outdoor presentations and group skits. It's yours to enjoy and it's awaiting your creativity! |
